Job description
Key Responsibilities
- Process Operation: Operate shot peening equipment used for surface enhancement of aircraft engine components; load/unload parts; monitor process performance; perform in-process checks.
- Part Preparation: Prepare components, fixtures, and masking materials for shot peening operations in accordance with approved procedures.
- Almen Verification: Prepare and process Almen strips in accordance with applicable specifications to verify peening intensity.
- Saturation Curve Control: Develop, verify, and maintain saturation curves to confirm process intensity compliance with specification requirements.
- Coverage Inspection: Perform coverage inspection to verify that required surface coverage has been achieved in accordance with applicable standards and process documentation.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct visual inspections before and after processing; document results; identify and contain nonconformances.
- Total Productive Maintenance: Perform daily inspection of the equipment in accordance with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
- Measurement Reports: Prepare process and inspection records in cooperation with Process Owner to ensure high quality of engine components.
- Setup Support: Perform fixture setup, machine parameter verification, nozzle checks, media checks, and air pressure validation per approved procedure.
- Process Control: Verify media condition, nozzle performance, air pressure, exposure time, and machine condition to ensure process compliance.
- Quality Control and Certification: Perform inspections and quality control checks on completed work to ensure compliance with standards. Certify your own work in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to reduce defects, rework, and processing variation; support Kaizen; update standard work and check sheets.
- Documentation & Compliance: Accurately document and record all performed work in accordance with approved procedures, ensuring traceability and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Work in accordance with Part-145 requirements and all Technical, Quality, and Safety Management System (SMS) standards, both internal and external.
- Team Leadership: If requested, take responsibility for a group of mechanics performing work under your technical supervision and authorization. Provide coaching, guidance, and instructions to ensure tasks are completed compliantly and efficiently.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in industrial processes; experience in shot peening, blasting, surface treatment, or similar repair/manufacturing processes preferred.
- Technical Skills: Experience operating shot peening equipment; understanding of process parameters such as intensity, coverage, media type, media size, nozzle condition, and exposure time.
- Measurement Skills: Familiarity with visual inspection methods, Almen strip evaluation, saturation curve development, and process verification requirements.
- Materials: Experience working with aerospace materials such as steels, stainless steels, nickel alloys, titanium, and other high-performance metals is a plus.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to work with technical documentation and internal processes, as well as read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Language Proficiency: Speak and understand English at a minimum B1 level.
- Training Commitment: Willingness to participate in on-the-job training (min. 6 weeks abroad).
- Computer Skills: Preferred knowledge of MS Office.
- Education: Vocational school or high school diploma.
- Shift Flexibility: Ability to work a shift pattern as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven professional experience in aviation.
- Experience with aerospace shot peening specifications and controlled repair environments.
- Knowledge of Almen strip processing, intensity validation, saturation curves, and coverage verification.
- Experience with standard work, 5S, TPM, and Kaizen.
- Familiarity with masking techniques and part protection during peening.
